Louise Miller Cook
ALBANY-Mrs. Louise Miller Cook, 94 of Dawson Rd. in Albany died June 27, 2014 at her residence.
Funeral services will be Monday 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church in Albany with an interment service 3:00 PM at Milan City Cemetery in Milan, GA. Dr. Don Adams officiating A native of Bladon Springs, AL, Mrs. Cook was born April 6, 1920 to the late Samuel Kirby and Lobelia Holcombe Miller. She has lived in Albany since 1970 where she was a member and Sunday school teacher at First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Hawke Sunday School class and U.M.W. Mrs. Cook was a retired educator with 32 years of service in Lee, Telfair and Jeff Davis Counties as teacher. She graduated from Livingston College in Alabama, and then from Georgia Teachers College in Statesboro, GA now known as Georgia Southern University. Mrs. Cook learned to drive at the age of 45 and was widowed early in life at the age of 52. Following her husband’s death in July of 1972 Mrs. Cook never remarried. She instead gained her strength from her faith and family. Mrs. Cook embraced the daunting task of raising a young family with her head held high and a smile on her face. Working as a teacher, each of her children received a college education and she always had a home for them to come to.
In her early years Mrs. Cook traveled by covered wagon on the farm to her most recent travels to Europe by airplane. Her values in life were faith, family and education. These same values are perpetuated through her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Cook loved her grandchildren, was an avid gardener (especially daylilies), awesome cook, die hard Brave’s fan and huge animal lover. She will always be remembered as an affectionate person, never judgmental and never angered.
Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by her husband, Quitman Cook and her parents.
Survivors include her children, Frank Cook and his wife Linda of Roswell, GA, Carolyn Cook of Albany and Robert Cook and his wife Donna Of Yorktown, IN, five grandchildren, Kelly Cook Meyn, DPT and her husband Dustin, Andrew Cook and his wife Shannon, Courtney Cook, James Cook and his wife Ali and Laura Cook and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Kimbrell-Stern.
