Officials investigating death of university student in Albany

Jarrett Jarrid Lango, 22, was unresponsive when found in his apartment Sunday night

ALBANY — The Albany Police Department is investigating the circumstances that led to the death of a university student on Sunday.

Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman with the APD, said that officers received a call at around 9 p.m. to 333 S. Mock Road, Apt. 81, in reference to a welfare check. Upon arrival, officers were told that a 22-year-old male had returned home from Atlanta on Sunday night and was not responding to phone calls.

Officers attempted to make contact by phone from the outside the apartment, where they could hear a phone ringing inside. The Albany Fire Department gained entry and found the man lying on the floor, unresponsive, Banks said.

The man was identified as Jarrett Jarrod Lango, a student at Albany State University.

A spokeswoman from ASU contacted by The Albany Herald said that the death occurred off-campus and referred questions to the APD.

Lango’s death remained under investigation Monday afternoon, Banks said.
