ALBANY — The American Heart Association’s 2014 Albany Heart Walk will be Saturday morning at The Veranda on Meredyth Drive, with the public is encouraged to come out and walk to help eliminate heart disease.
Anyone wanting to walk or donate to the event is asked to arrive at 9:30 a.m. for registration and a donation turn-in, as well as other activities. The event will officially start at 10 a.m. with an opening ceremony before the walk begins at 10:30 a.m.
The walk will be a 5K (three-mile) route around the Veranda property and is open to people of all ages. Anyone raising donations of $100 or more will receive a Heart Walk T-shirt.
The Heart Association hopes to raise $60,000 from the event and has already received just over $25,000 in advance donations.

The American Heart Association is the largest voluntary health organization working to prevent, treat and defeat heart, disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases.
According to Heart Association information, heart disease is the No. 1 leading cause of death in the United States, claiming the lives of more than 800,000 Americans annually.
