ALBANY — Ten grocery stores, including a pair in metro Albany, will be getting name changes soon, officials with Bi-Lo Holdings announced Friday.
The Winn-Dixie supermarkets at 2800 Old Dawson Road in Albany and at 1553 U.S. Highway 19 South, Leesburg, will be rebranded as Harveys stores. A third nearby Winn Dixie located at 1208 Crawford St. in Americus will also become a Harveys.
Meanwhile, seven Harveys supermarkets in southern Georgia — three each in Valdosta and Brunswick and one at St. Marys — will convert to Winn-Dixies.
“We carefully evaluated the market areas around each store and made conversion decisions that we believe will work best for customers,” R. Randall Onstead, president and CEO of Bi-Lo Holdings, said Friday afternoon. “Customers will not see any change to the level of quality they have come to expect from either banner.”
Bi-Lo Holdings, parent company of BI-LO and Winn-Dixie supermarket chains, said the changes were part of its pending acquisition of 134 operating stores from Delhaize Group.
Bi-Lo Holdings officials said schedules and time lines for store conversions will be announced later. Last month, Bi-Lo Holdings received approval from the Federal Trade Commission to proceed with the transaction to acquire the Sweetbay, Harveys and Reid’s supermarket chains from Delhaize Group pending the divestiture of 12 stores by Bi-Lo Holdings and Delhaize Group retaining two stores and converting them to the Food Lion banner.
Currently, there are six Harveys supermarkets in Albany, with locations at 1511 Radium Springs Road, 325 N. Slappey Blvd., 2310 N. Slappey, 2425 Sylvester Road and 1032 W. Gordon Ave. The sixth store at 2527 Dawson Road, adjacent to Kmart, is across the street from the shopping center where the Albany Winn-Dixie tapped for conversion is located. Harveys also has stores located in Camilla and Sylvester.
