SYLVESTER - The funeral services for the late Mr. Samuel Chambers of 802 E. Pope Street, Sylvester, GA, who departed this life on Monday, March 3, 2014 at his residence, will be held on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. from the First African Baptist Church in Sylvester, GA, with the Reverend Terrell Carter, Presiding, Bishop C. L. Dennison, Eulogist. Burial will follow in the Shepard Memorial Garden in Sylvester, GA. Mr. Samuel Dewitt Chambers (affectionately known as Sam) was born on January 18, 1943.

He received his education in the Worth County Public School System, and graduated from J. W. Holley High School in 1965. Sam had many talents. He loved working on cars. If something needed done to a car – he could do it. He pulled cars, worked on cars, under cars, over cars; everything you could think of dealing with a car, Sam did it. But his favorite hobby was fishing with his friend, Deacon Jimmy Ransom. Sam retired from Heatcraft Refrigeration after ten years of service.

Sam gave his life to Christ at an early age, and joined the Macedonia Baptist Church. He later joined Pine Bluff Baptist Church in Sumner, GA.

Sam loved to sing. He sang in several gospel groups: The Souls of Harmony, The Crowns of Life, the Traveling Echoes, and the Gospelaires.

Sam was united in Holy Matrimony to his loving wife, Mrs. Georgia Ann Chambers, on April 21, 1978.

He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife, Georgia Ann Chambers; eight children, Willie (Diane) Chambers of Alexandria, VA, Daryl (Gloria) Chambers of Columbus, GA, Orlando (Keesha) Chambers of Albany, GA, Angela Farley, Derrick Chambers, Louchina (Barry) Thomas, all of Sylvester, GA, Terence Green of Russuellville, KY, Trevor Green of Jacksonville, FL; eighteen grandchildren; a special grandson that served as a caregiver, Terence Green, Jr.; two great grandchildren; five sisters, Louise Hamilton, Nancy Chambers, Patricia (Melvin, Sr.) Jefferson, all of Sylvester, GA, Georgia (Robert) Williams of Lake Wales, FL, Doris James of Albany, GA; a brother, Homer (Cynthia) Chambers of Camilla, GA; a mother-in-law, Mary Lee Watson of Sylvester, GA; four brothers-in-law, Levon (Dorothy) Watson of St. Petersburg, FL, Peter Calvin Leonard, Edward Charles Watson, both of Sylvester, GA, Minister Cleveland (Wanda) Jackson of Ocala, FL; two sisters-in-law, Corene Watson of St. Petersburg, FL, Ruby (Rev. George) Tift of Worth County, GA.
