Gunmen try to rob Albany food store

Three would-be robbers hit foot mart

ALBANY — Police officials say three males with handguns tried to rob H&K Food Mart on 900 S. Westover Blvd. Wednesday afternoon.

Victims Hasubhai Patel and Jyotiben Patel told officers of the Albany Police Department that two unknown black males with handguns entered the store around 6 p.m. and attempted to obtain money from the register. The robbery was interrupted by a third black male, believed to be a lookout, officials say, and the suspects fled on foot.

Arriving officers searched a nearby wooded area behind a mobile home park where two suspects were taken into custody, officials say, but released after an questioning.

Suspects are currently sought and will be charged with aggravated assault when apprehended, said Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the Albany Police Department. Banks said a clerk at the food mart received unspecified injuries.
