Letter to the Editor

I am writing this letter to say that I am proud to recommend Aaron Johnson for District 4 of the Dougherty County School Board in the May 20 election. It has been my privilege to have known Aaron in his position as an assistant professor of economics at Darton State College for a number of years. Aaron is intelligent, competent, honest, and he is committed to community involvement and improvement.

Not only does Aaron keep himself well-informed in his chosen field of economics, but he seeks information about education and the larger community as a whole. He has become convinced that parental and community involvement are vital to a successful school system. He understands the role of school board members to make policy and hold the administrators accountable for the day-to-day operation of the school system. Aaron gets the connection between the quality of education and the economic power of a community. From his position as a member of the Economic Development Commission, he has seen firsthand the value of quality education to attracting businesses and industries to Albany.

He is a man of integrity and commitment. He and his wife have a personal stake in the future of education in Dougherty County as they plan to enroll their child in the Dougherty County School System. Aaron Johnson wants to be a board member who is elected from District 4 to serve all of the students in Dougherty County. He believes the power of a school board member lies in his/her ability to support the administration in providing the best resources and the best personnel possible. I urge you to elect him and give him the opportunity to serve our children. Thank you.
