Albany State president visits Westover High

Albany State University president Art Dunning visited Westover Comprehensive High School recently. Dunning spoke to Westover students who have committed to Albany State University and those who are thinking about attending in the Fall. He told the seniors that Albany State University is a good educational facility where they can receive a quality education for a reasonable price. He also said that he chose to visit Westover as part of his outreach to the Albany community.

Turner Elementary future leaders give back to community

On April 21, future community leaders from Turner Elementary School, along with City Commissioner Clinton Johnson, gave back to their community by participating in “Keep Albany Dougherty Beautiful.” The students displayed school spirit during the annual Stash-the-Trash Great American Cleanup litter pick-up event. The students volunteered their time showing initiative and skills to get the job done.

Phoebe donates AED to Westover Athletic Department

Sudden cardiac arrest is one of the leading causes of death in the U.S. More than 350,000 people will suffer from sudden cardiac arrest this year . It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere and at any age. An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is the only effective treatment for restoring a regular heart rhythm during sudden cardiac arrest. Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital recently donated an AED to the Westover Comprehensive High School Athletic Department. The AED will be located in the athletic field house. Angie Barber presented head coach Octavia Jones with the AED.
