Several students injured when stage collapses at Ga. high school

CONYERS – More than a dozen Salem High students were on the school theater’s stage Tuesday night when it collapsed during a chorus concert, according to information from the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office.

Several students were treated on the scene by National EMS personnel for minor injuries, while two others were taken to Rockdale Medical Center.

“A portion of the stage extension collapsed while there were about 15-20 students on it,” said Cindy Ball, Community Relations director for Rockdale County Public Schools. “Two students went to Rockdale Medical Center to be checked out and were treated and released. At this time we are looking into the cause.”

The stage, which collapsed around 7 p.m., has also recently been used for several plays and other functions.
