ALBANY — Less than a week remains to submit applications to the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce’s new leadership development program, “Leadership Institute.”
Anyone intersted in applying to the chamber’s inaugural leadership program must have their application submitted to the Chamber no later than Monday, June 2.
Designed to nurture and develop future business and community leaders by honing professional and personal leadership skills, the Leadership Institute is one of the Chamber’s most anticipated new programs.
“This is an exciting initiative,” said Chamber President and CEO Chris Hardy. “Our hope is to create a program that will have a real impact on developing future community leaders. One of the reasons the community has been so successful over the years is because of the great leadership that has guided it. It’s important that we make sure we have those types of leaders in the future.”
The curriculum for the program, which is set to begin in August, was designed by the Chamber’s Leadership Development Division Committee members over the past year and focuses on the skills needed to create effective leaders.
The program has a strong mentorship component where students will be paired with seasoned community and business leaders to gain first hand experience.
The curriculum also includes detailed focus on several key leadership skills such as effective delegation skills, understanding leadership styles, creating a vision, strategic planning, effective networking skills, developing political savvy, influencing, negotiating, developing an image and use of media among others.
Applications for Leadership Institute can be accessed through the Chamber website at www.albanyga.com and must be submitted prior to the June 2 deadline.
