ALBANY — Albany Technical College recently held its annual awards banquet for nominees selected for the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL), Rick Perkins Award (Instructor of the Year), and the Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) for the upcoming calendar year.

Six GOAL finalists — Kozman Barnum (environmental horticulture), Evelyn Jenkins (culinary arts), Norman Stringer (electronics technology), Jill Peterson (practical nursing) and Jeremy Baumgartel (civil engineering technology) — were selected by an Albany Tech panel.

Later, an Albany Area Chamber of Commerce panel will select one of the six to compete at the State GOAL competition to be held in April in Atlanta. The state winner is the official spokesperson for technical education in Georgia.

The EAGLE Winner was Helen Isom, a Clay County adult education student.

Dennis Courtney, an engineering instructor with the college’s SASET (Students Achieving Success in Engineering Technology) program was the the Perkins Award winner.
