ALBANY — At least three assaults involving firearms took place in Albany over the weekend, including one in which the victim remains in the hospital.

Reports show that one such incident occurred at 1707 Fir Lane at around 4 a.m. on Sunday. Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the Albany Police Department, said 41-year old Deshun Lamonte Bells was arrested after he grabbed a rifle from a bedroom and began yelling at his wife and three children after the couple had a verbal dispute.

Bells was transported to the Dougherty County Jail, and there were no injuries reported, Banks said.

Another incident was reported at 1400 E. Tift Ave. at around 5 p.m. on Saturday. There, Banks said a witness told police she saw a man point a gun at 15-year old boy as he was walking toward the intersection of East Tift and Jordan Street to meet his girlfriend and her child.

No injuries were reported, Banks said.

Meanwhile, the investigation continues regarding the shooting of an Albany man Saturday on the 1200 block of South Harding Street around 2:20 p.m. The victim, 34-year-old Horace George III, was listed in critical condition on Monday, a spokeswoman at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital said.

George was hit multiple times in the abdomen and the arm. The suspect, identified as Jequaski Rashad Whitehead, 25, was taken into custody and charged Saturday. The circumstances leading to the South Harding shooting were not yet clear Monday afternoon, Banks said.
