State representative presents Presidents Volunteer Service awards to Young Marines

On Nov. 15, state Rep. Winfred Dukes, D-Albany, presented each Young Marine with a Presidents Volunteer Service Award during a ceremony at the Base Theater as their families looked on. That same day, after the ceremony, Young Marine Gunnery Sgt. Danyel M. Tobias was presented an award for Young Marine of the Year for the First Regiment of Georgia.

Veterans Day festivities include ceremony at Veterans Park

The Korean War resulted in the deaths of 36,000 servicemembers, more than 90,000 being wounded and 7,874 still missing in action. The memorial at Veterans Park, officials said, is meant to serve as an acknowledgement to those who served in the conflict, their family members and provides something for their grandchildren and great-grandchildren to cement it in history.
