The Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed that an Edison police officer shot and killed Chad Pierce after a chase that reached speeds in excess of 100 mph.
The chase started in Edison and ran to Arlington where Pierce crashed his Chevrolet Aztec into a ditch, said Mike Lewis, GBI special agent in charge.
Pierce reached into the glove compartment and his console while police were approaching his Aztec, Lewis said. The officer thought Pierce was reaching for a weapon and fired, Lewis added.
So far no weapon has been found, Lewis said.
