Albany man killed while crossing Radium Springs Road early Tuesday
Albany police say no charges will be filed in the predawn incident

ALBANY — An Albany man was struck by a vehicle and killed Tuesday morning while crossing the 600 block of Radium Springs Road, according to officials with the Albany Police Department and the Dougherty County Coroner’s Office.
According to reports, Frederick Celestine, 53, stepped into traffic and was struck by a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Brian Williams, 42, of Albany, around 4:59 a.m.
“The pedestrian was standing on the concrete median in the middle of Radium Springs Road,” APD spokeswoman Phyllis Banks said. “The vehicle was traveling north.
“The pedestrian stepped into the path of the vehicle. The driver swerved to avoid the pedestrian, but was unable to do so. The pedestrian was struck on the driver’s side of the vehicle and was thrown into the left turn lane for southbound vehicles.”
According to reports, Celestine was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Center.
“Frederick Celestine was pronounced deceased at 5:54 a.m.,” Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler said.
Officials confirmed that neither the driver nor the pedestrian appeared to have been impaired.
“There were no obvious signs of impairment concerning the driver nor the pedestrian,” said Banks. “No charges will be filed.”
