Brief standoff with armed man in Albany ends peacefully
Police say gunman has been taken to hospital for evaluation

ALBANY — A standoff between law enforcement and a man who threatened to shoot himself at an Albany fast-food restaurant ended shortly before 7 p.m. with no injuries.
Details were sketchy Tuesday night, but Capt. J.F. Hager with the Dougherty County Police Department said the man, who had not been identified by deadline Tuesday, had been taken to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
Hager said the event started when Albany police spotted the car driven by the gunman, who was being sought in a domestic incident. Albany police officers pulled the car over at the McDonald’s restaurant at Westover Boulevard and Gillionville Road late Tuesday afternoon. The restaurant is located in Dougherty County police jurisdiction.
The man in the car then got out and placed a gun to his head, threatening to kill himself, Hager said.
An ambulance arrived at the restaurant around 6:35 p.m. and left with the man shortly before 7 p.m.
