Mother appeals denial of death benefits in Randolph County case

A Randolph County Superior Court judge dismissed the case last year, finding Louise Barzey had no right to the death benefits of her son

Deron Shorter, 37, was killed in July 2010 when the city of Cuthbert mower he was operating crashed into a ditch and turned over on top of him. His mother, Louise Shorter Barzey, has been attempting to claim his workers comp death benefits. Oral arguments in the case will be heard Monday by the Georgia Supreme Court.
