Victim shot multiple times on Mossydale Lane in Albany

ALBANY — Albany Police Department investigators responded Wednesday morning to a shooting incident that occurred on Mossydale Lane. The victim, who was shot multiple times, was listed in critical condition, according to officials.

“Officers responded to the location regarding an injured person,” APD spokeswoman Phyllis Banks said. “On scene, 35-year-old Nicholas Gillison was found with multiple gunshot wounds.”

According to reports, the call came in to dispatch at 9:56 a.m.

Witnesses, who were working near the scene, spotted Gillison and said he had been shot in both the head and chest.

“We heard him after we turned off the truck,” said a local lawn maintenance worker who asked not to be identified. “We were coming over here working, and when we turned the truck off we heard him yelling. He was bleeding from his head and his chest.”

Gillison was taken to the hospital for treatment, but according to Banks, “His condition is critical.”

Mossydale, a close-knit neighborhood with homes built four to an acre lot, was abuzz with activity after Wednesday’s shooting. Neighbors up and down the street peeked out their windows or stood in their front doors watching. Many said they just wanted to know what was going on.

Investigators had 127 Mossydale completely surrounded with crime scene tape Wednesday afternoon, and several evidence markers indicating bullet strikes were placed around the exterior of the home.

“Suspects are unknown at this time,” Banks said. “Updates will be provided as additional information becomes available.”

As of late Wednesday afternoon, Gillison was still in critical condition, according to officials.

“From what I understand, Mr. Gillison is still alive, although in critical condition,” Dougherty County Deputy Coroner Terrance Bryant said. “Our office has not been contacted.”

If Gillison succumbs to his wounds, he would become the 15th homicide of 2017 for Albany, the same as the total number of homicides for the entire year of 2016, and nearly double the number that occurred in 2015.

Albany’s 14 homicides that have already occurred include two double homicides and one triple homicide.
