Charles Alsobrook, Sr.

TIFTON — Charles Robert Alsobrook, Sr., 76, of Tifton, died Saturday, May 10, 2008, at his residence.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 P.M., Saturday, May 17, 2008, at New Covenant Church with Rev. Mike Hobbs officiating. A veteran’s interment service will be held at a later date in North Georgia. After the service on Saturday, friends are welcome to come to his home at 2407 Diana Ave. for visitation

Mr. Alsobrook was born October 21, 1931, in Dougherty Co. to the late Ray James Alsobrook and Louise Miller Alsobrook. Mr. Alsobrook was also preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Annie Strickland Alsobrook, who died July 4, 2007, and a son, Dewayne Skidmore. Mr. and Mrs. Alsobrook were married February 12, 1953.

Mr. Alsobrook served eleven years in the military, serving in the South Pacific during WWII and during the Korean Conflict. He also served in the National Guard for many years. He worked as a telephone communications specialist for AT&T. Mr. Alsobrook was a past commander of the VFW Post and was an active volunteer with Disabled American Veterans. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved deer hunting and he was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He attended New Covenant Church.

Mr. Alsobrook is survived by one son, Charles Robert (Chuck) Alsobrook, Jr. and wife, Jana, of Tifton; two daughters, Lynn Carmichael of Douglas and Jackie Carmichael and husband, Ric of Canton; his grandchildren, Randy E. Carmichael, Jr., of Douglas, Beth Skidmore of Moultrie, Sarah Carmichael Durham of Lenox, Jennifer Skidmore of Moultrie, Richard Alan Carmichael, Jr., of Tifton, Charles Robert (Brock) Alsobrook, III, of Tifton, William Daniel Carmichael of Canton, and Ashley Lauren Alsobrook of Tifton; his great-grandchildren, Savannah, Marcus, Destiny, Heather, Duron, and Faith; one brother, James Ray Alsobrook of Newton; and one sister, Peggy Strickland of Albany.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to the New Covenant Church Missionary Fund, 2167 Whiddon Mill Rd., Tifton, Ga. 31793.

MOULTRIE — Mr. Clarence E. Joseph, 70, died Sunday, April 27, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville, SC. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, at 4 P.M., May 14, 2008 at the funeral home.

Starlin Morey

Starlin Morey, 78, of Baker Co., died Sunday, May 11, 2008 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.

Graveside funeral service will be 11 A.M. Tuesday, May 13, at Springhill Church Cemetery in Mitchell Co.

Norn November 28, 1929 in Mitchell Co., Mr. Morey was the son of the late John Thomas and Bessie Gregory Morey. He was a veteran of the US Army and worked as a construction superintendent.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Samantha Bush Morey of Baker Co.; two daughters, Ann Muller and husband, Jimmy, of Hinesville and Teresa Bearden and husband, Stanley, of Baconton; a sister, Winnie Steadman of Pearson, FL; two brothers, Clovis Morey of DeLand, FL. and Bobby Morey of Whigam; five grandchildren, James Muller of Donalsonville, Sandra Lawson and husband, Luke, of Doanlsonville, John Bearden of Newton, Samantha Tennille of Baconton, and Michael Bearden of Baconton.

Sara Martin Piper

AMERICUS — Mrs. Sara Martin Piper age 76 died early Sunday morning May 11, 2008 at Perfect Care 114 Sullivan Drive in Americus. Funeral services will be held from the Graveside at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday May 13, 2008 at Hopeful Baptist Church in Mitchell County with Rev. Hugh Harbort officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the residence of Mr. A.D. Martin 206 Frieda Lane Americus, Ga.

Mrs. Piper was born November 29, 1931 in Mitchell County the daughter of the late John Dwight Martin and Velva Wooten Martin. She was retired from the Veteran Administration office as a secretary and was a member of Hopeful Baptist Church in Mitchell County.

Mrs. Piper is survived by a daughter Marsha Donald of Gainesville, Ga. and a brother Arnold D. Martin of Americus, Ga. Also surviving are two nieces Lynn Jordan and husband David of Americus, Ga. and Kaye Keatley of Unadilla, Ga.; also a nephew Kevin Martin and wife Paula of Ellaville, Ga. Mrs. Piper was preceded in death by her first husband Bernard Donald and second husband Harry Piper also a sister-in-law; Earline Martin.
