Obituary Policy

HEADLINES

The Albany Herald offers free pending obituary notices and arrangement notices to everyone with ties to Albany and Southwest Georgia. Extended notices will be offered on a paid basis with proofs faxed to the funeral homes for approval prior to publication.

The free notices will be a standard format as shown below. Paid notices will be offered in two formats, which examples are also included below.

All obituaries, free and paid, include the name, location and telephone number of the funeral home, unless the notice is published after the service and burial.

Obituaries are published through our resource center and the deadline is 3 p.m. the day prior to publication.

FUNERAL HOMES OR CREMATORIES.

ALBANY – John L. Doe, 58, of 132 Pine Ave., died Wednesday, June 7, 2000. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church. Visitation will be 7 p.m. Ð 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Smith & Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

ALBANY – John L. Doe, 58, of 132 Pine Ave., died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.  The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The Rev. J. Smith will officiate. 

A native of Albany, Mr. Doe was employed by ABC Construction Co. He was educated in the Dougherty County School System and attended ABAC College. 

Survivors include his wife, Jane C. Doe of Albany, a daughter, Sally Doe Smith of Albany, and two sons, John L. Doe, Jr. of Atlanta, and Sam C. Doe of Putney; and a brother, Larry A. Doe of Albany, and two grandchildren. 

Visitation will be 7 p.m.-9 p.m. today at Smith & Sons Funeral Home. 

Additional information in paid obituaries:

The cost for the above obituary including picture is $50, billed to the funeral home. Cause and place of death along with full information concerning funeral arrangements and burial may be included.

Education, immediate family members may be included.

Extended family including names and locations of grand children and relatives beyond spouse, children and parents may be added. Pallbearers, honorary pallbearers and honorary groups, club memberships and achievements may be added.

Visitation and memorial information may be included.

An obituary may run a second time with a pick-up discount of 25 percent off the original prcie of the obituary.
