OBITUARY POLICY

The Albany Herald changed the way we publish obituaries August 1, 2000. We continue to offer free pending notices and arrangement notices to everyone with ties to Albany and Southwest Georgia. Extended notices will be offered on a paid basis with proofs faxed to the funeral homes for approval prior to publication.

The free notices will be a standard format as shown on the example page. Paid notices will be offered in two formats that are also included on the example page. By offering faxed proofs prior to publication, we are striving to eliminate errors in the notices and give the families the opportunity to list everyone they would like included in the notices.

In order to provide proofs for the paid notices, our deadline is now 3 p.m. the day prior to publication for both paid and free notices. Obituaries are now published through our Resource Center and not the newsroom. Saralyn Lewis enters the obituaries weekdays and Holly Halford on the weekends. The Resource Center is open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the weekends.

Our telephone numbers are:

  • Saralyn Lewis 229/438-3258 (Mon.-Fri. 8-5)
  • Holly Halford 229/438-3258 (Sat.-Sun 3-5)

OUR OBITUARY FAX NUMBER IS: 229/438-3200

All obituaries must come from funeral homes or crematories or be verified by these establishments.
