John Smith, The Herald's 2008 Player of the Year for track & field who now is a sophomore at UGA, is turning heads in Athens after his second-place finish in the pole vault over the weekend at the SEC Championships. (EDITS: corrects that Smith was only UGA pole vaulter to quailfy for NCAA Regionals during the SEC Championships)
