Jamie Partridge, from the National Association of Letter Carriers, protests Wednesday in, Portland, Ore. Local Postal Service workers gathered on the Hawthorne Bridge to protest possible service and staffing cuts. The Postal Service, founded in 1775, may go into default on Dec. 16 unless the government intervenes in some way. Postal Service officials say the operation is in debt $5 to $10 billion, depending on how the numbers are crunched.
