John Allen is under investigation for alleged "inappropriate communications" with Jill Kelley, the woman who is said to have received threatening emails from Paula Broadwell, the woman with whom former CIA Director David Petraeus had an extramarital affair. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta says the FBI referred the matter to the Pentagon on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012. Panetta says he ordered a Pentagon investigation of Allen on Monday.

Scandal widens in probe of top US general's emails
The sex scandal that led to CIA Director David Petraeus' downfall widened Tuesday, ensnaring another acclaimed military figure with word the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan is under investigation for alleged "inappropriate communications" with a woman who received threatening emails from Petraeus' girlfriend.
