William “Biff” Coker, pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church, paid homage to first responders in an address Wednesday evening at the church. Covenant hosted its 9/11 Appreciation Dinner for local law enforcement, firefighters, EMS and others. Attendees joined in singing the “Star Spangled Banner” and “America the Beautiful” and were shown a special Internet slide presentation of New York City and the attack on the World Trade Towers. The invocation for the dinner event was given by Lee James, who spent eight months as a prisoner of war after his B-17 bomber was shot down on Sept. 11, 1944.(Jim West)
