ALBANY — When the Westover boys basketball team takes the floor this evening for its first game of the annual Albany High School U-Save-It Christmas Classic, there will be a new face donning a Patriots uniform.
Sophomore Dequan Green, son of Westover legend and former Cincinnati and NBA player, Dontonio Wingfield, will likely make his debut for his father’s alma mater tonight, according to Westover head coach Dallis Smith.
“Dequan is enrolled and has practiced with us this week,” Smith told The Herald on Friday. “He may see some time; we may spot check him a little bit.”
Green enrolled in Westover last week after abruptly leaving Sherwood in the middle of the season.
Westover opens at 7 p.m. today at Albany High against Swainsboro — the same team which handed the Patriots one of just four losses all of last season en route to their run to the GHSA Class AAA state championship game.
