Report: Giants to tinker with Posey’s position
The Giants apparently want to find a way to get Lee County's Buster Posey on its opening day roster -- even if it's a position other than catcher.

Buster Posey, seen during Giants practice last year, started his career pitching and playing various positions at Lee County in high school before being moved to catcher his sophomore year at Florida State then winning every major award under the sun.

SAN FRANCISCO — Lee County’s Buster Posey could be moving to the infield — and the big leagues.
According to the San Jose Mercury News, Giants manager Bruce Bochy is planning on having Posey, the top catching prospect in baseball, move to the infield during spring training in hopes Posey can find a spot on the big league club this season.
“I just hope somebody gets me some new gloves,” Posey told the Mercury-News with a laugh.
Bochy told reporters on the eve of the team’s FanFest that the Giants aren’t sure what uniform Buster Posey will be wearing in April, or even what glove he will be wearing.
Bochy said it’s possible that Posey could have a place on the Giants’ opening day roster — potentially playing positions other than catcher. Bochy and general manager Brian Sabean have talked about giving Posey some work in the infield — first base, mostly — to see if it's a good fit for the club.
Bochy added that the team, which recently re-signed veteran Bengie Molina, plans to cut back the playing time.
There’s still a good chance Posey will start in Triple-A Fresno.
Of course, Posey didn’t catch at Lee County High -- he pitched and played the infield ---- and was recruited to FSU as a position player, which he served dutifully in his freshman season. Posey didn’t move from shortstop to behind the plate until his sophomore year at Florida State.
At FSU, Posey once played all nine positions in a game for the Seminoles in a win against lower-tier Divison I Savannah State.
