JEKYLL ISLAND – Kenneth B. Hodges III, of Albany, was installed Saturday as president-elect of the 49,000-member State Bar of Georgia during the organization’s annual meeting.

Hodges will become the State Bar’s 56th president in June of 2018.

He previously served as a member of the Executive Committee and Board of Governors of the State Bar. For the past year, he was the organization’s treasurer. He also chairs the Attorney Wellness Task Force.

Hodges, whose Ken Hodges Law has offices in Albany and Atlanta, focuses his practice on criminal defense and civil litigation, including, but not limited to, personal injury, wrongful death, commercial litigation and civil rights cases.

Named Georgia’s District Attorney of the Year in 2002, he spent 15 years as a prosecutor, including a dozen as district attorney for the Dougherty Judicial Circuit. Hodges also is a past recipient of the Justice Robert Benham Award for Community Service and the Commitment to Equality Award, both presented by the State Bar, and the Eagle Award, presented by the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council of Georgia.

Hodges has served as secretary of the Urban League of Greater Atlanta and co-chair of the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Day Committee in Albany. He is a past chairman of the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia and past president of the District Attorneys’ Association of Georgia and the Dougherty Circuit Bar Association.

A graduate of Emory University and the University of Georgia School of Law, Hodges was the Democratic nominee in the 2010 election for Georgia attorney general and announced earlier this year that he will run for a judgeship on the Georgia Court of Appeals.
