A native of Atlanta, GA, born December 10 1931, Carolyn was the daughter of Nathaniel L. and Caroline B. Beall and the great-great-granddaughter of Judge Charles Dougherty for whom Dougherty County is named. She graduated from Henry Grady High School in Atlanta and from King College, a Presbyterian College, in Bristol, TN. She was a dedicated school teacher for 36 years teaching several years in Richmond, VA, for two years with the U.S. Army in Wurtzburg, Germany and approximately 20 years with the Dougherty County School System in Albany, GA from which she retired. She was a member Alpha Delta Kappa International Sorority for Women Educators, served several years as a Pink Lady with Palmyra Park Hospital and was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. She was predeceased by her husband of 31 years, Erron L. Gray.
Survivors include her sister, Natalie B. Newsome and her husband (Eric) of Leesburg, FL; a niece, Caroline N. Schwalm and her husband (Tony) of Brandon, FL; a nephew, Eric A. Newsome, III and his wife (Margie) of Fayetteville, NC and five great-nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday January 6, 2008 from 3 PM to 5 PM at Kimbrell-Stern.

A lifelong resident of her beloved Worth County, she was born January 9, 1916, to Jessie A. Odom and Emma Jane Jolly Odom. During her long residence in Sumner, she was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, her oil painting, and was a wonderful cook. She was a member of Sumner Baptist Church since childhood. As her health declined, in 2002, she moved to Richmond to be with her son and family-but-to her, Summer was always her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Reginald Delos Reynolds on September 1, 1980.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Richard Reynolds and daughter-in-law, Derenda Reynolds of Richmond, VA; grandchildren, Ashley Reynolds Ray and husband, Ryal Ray of Atlanta, Austin Reynolds of Richmond, Abbey Reynolds of Raleigh, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Sadie Stumpe was born July 24, 1927, in Wilson, NC, to the late Sam and Anna Corbitt Thomas. Mrs. Stumpe was a homemaker and had a special love for animals. She was a wonderful mom who loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Bernard Stumpe.
Survivors include her two sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn B. Stumpe, Jr. and his wife, Terri of Albany, Timothy Stumpe and his wife, Carolyn of Marietta; four daughters and sons-in-law, Yvonne Remstedt and her husband, David of Leesburg, Beverly Martin and her husband, Michael of Savannah, Debra Arnold and her husband, Andy of Albany, Susan Johnson and her husband, Chris of Dothan, AL; grandchildren, Lori Cannon, Dodie McDowell, Jesca Johnson, Hanna Johnson, Kendall Stumpe, Tanner Stumpe, Alexa, Elizabeth, Bryan, Savannah and Kalie Stumpe; great-grandchildren, Collier King, Tayler Cannon and Ryan Cannon.

BRUNSWICK Captain Lodwick Houston Alford, U.S.N. (Ret), 93, of Sea Island, GA, died December 19, 2007, in Sylvester, GA.
Born in Sylvester, Worth County, in 1914, he was the seventeenth child of William Leorus Haywood Alford and the sixth child of Lucy Melvina (Overby) Alford.
Captain Alford enlisted in the Navy in 1932 and entered the U.S. Naval Academy in 1934. After graduation in 1938, he was commissioned as an Ensign and embarked on a long and interesting career covering three wars and varied service in battleships, cruisers, aircraft carriers, destroyers, and staff duty ashore. In senior ranks, he commanded a Fletcher class destroyer in the Korean War, a division of four destroyers in the Atlantic Fleet, a squadron of eight destroyers in the Sixth Fleet, and an 18,000 ton destroyer tender in the Atlantic Fleet.
Captain Alford holds the following decorations: Bronze Star for combat performance in the Iwo Jima and Okinawa campaigns; Navy Commendation Medal for combat in Gilbert, Marshall and Solomon Island campaigns; a second Bronze Star for combat performance in the Korean War; Armed Forces Commendation Medal; and twelve campaign and service ribbons. He retired from the Navy in 1967 after 35 years of service.
His education includes: BS, U.S. Naval Academy; Diploma, U.S. Naval War College; Diploma, The National War College; Diploma, The American University; MA, The George Washington University.
Captain Alford published a book, Playing for Time: War on an Asiatic Fleet Destroyer that gives a first hand portrayal of the conflict in Asian waters during the first few months on World War II. The book is available at the G.J. Ford bookstore on St. Simons Island.
Captain Alford founded the Civil War Round Table of Coastal Georgia in 1980. The group represents Civil War buffs from all over the coast.
Captain Alford was preceded in death by his first wife of 53 years, Katherine Kirkland in 1993 and a grandson, Scott Kirkland Alford in 2005.
Surviving are his second wife, Frances Du Priest Park Alford; her son, John Mack Park and his wife, Deborah; her daughter-in-law, Faye Park; a sister, Louise Parker; a son, Lodwick Kirkland Alford and his wife, Jerilyn; a grandson, Brett Allan Alford and his wife, Jordin; a daughter-in-law, Heather Coker Alford; a great-grandson, Tristan Kirkland Alford; a daughter, Andrea and her husband, Charles Fantacci; and two granddaughters, Victoria and Carol Fantacci.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the St. Simons Methodist Church Building Fund.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 7, 2008 at the St. Simons Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery will be on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at 3 p.m.

Mr. Coalson was a charter member of the Baconton Lions Club. Mr. Coalson worked with the Albany Police Dept. for 12 years and retired from Merck & Co. of Albany, after 22 years of service. He was an avid organic gardener.
Survivors include his wife, Lanette Coalson of Baconton; three sons, Wayne Coalson and wife, Yvonne of Camilla, Terry Coalson of Albany and Lance Coalson and wife, Jean of Tallahassee, FL; one brother, Jerry Coalson of Douglasville; seven grandchildren, Tim and Rhonda Coalson, Kevin and Michelle Coalson, Ginger and Chris Huckans, Jeff and Tina Coalson, Nick and Sherri Coalson, Cathy and Andy Bowman and Chris and Jessica Coalson; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Taylor was born January 22, 1921, in Iron City, GA, the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Mary Lipham Avery of Thomasville. She graduated from Thomasville High School in 1939. She was Probate Judge in Randolph County filling the unexpired term of her late husband, W.B. Taylor. She also served as Probate Judge in Webster County filling the unexpired term of her late husband, Carl O. Massey. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Aubrey Paul Dunlap of Thomasville.
She was a devoted, loving, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had served as WMU President of Cuthbert First Baptist Church for a number of years. She loved her church, her family and her flowers. She was a member of the Retired Probate Judges of Ga.
Survivors include three daughters, Sharleene (Charlie) Yelverton of Edison, Paula Southwell of Americus and Aubrey Ehrhardt of Decatur, IN; also by stepchildren, James Howard Massey of Decatur, GA, Eugene (Elizabeth) Taylor and Nelson (Carolyn) Taylor of Cuthbert, Betty (Doc) Bridges of Shellman, Winnie Sinquefield of Albany, Nadie (Royce) Dunnaway of Dawson, Lamar (Irma) Taylor of Georgetown and Melvin (Wynona) Taylor of Ailey; grandchildren: Katrina (Michael) Hadley of Leesburg, Stanley (Becky) Wills of Edison, Tammy (Dean) Crumbley, Angie (Roland) Kauffman of Americus and LaDana (Ty) Hanni of Decatur, IN; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Joseph Avery of Thomasville and Johnny Avery of St. Petersburg, FL.
