LEESBURG — A man was jailed Saturday after investigators say he demanded money from tellers at two different Lee County banks as a joke.

Christopher King was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless conduct after investigators say he went through the drive-throughs to Security Bank and Suntrust Bank Saturday morning demanding money.

According to investigator Miles O’Quinn, King and another man went to Suntrust Bank to meet up with King’s boss, who had his paycheck.

When King saw his boss at the drive-through at Security Bank, he reportedly told the teller at Suntrust “give me all your money...I’ll be back” as a joke and drove off to meet up with his boss, O’Quinn said.

When he got to Security Bank, his boss had driven through the drive-through so when King got to that teller window, he, again, demanded all the bank’s money, to which the teller replied “We don’t have any,” O’Quinn said.

“He then went back to Suntrust where his boss was now, got his check and tried to walk inside the bank, but the doors were locked because the tellers saw him come back and thought he was going to rob them,” O’Quinn said. “He got back in the drive-through, cashed his check, asked for a sucker and when the transaction was done, our deputies were on scene.”

Although the call orginally came in as a bank robbery, after speaking with bank employees and interviewing the men, the charges were lowered.

The other man with King was not charged, O’Quinn said.
