BACONTON — The man pegged by police as the person responsible for killing his ex-girlfriend with a garden tool and beating her daughter and another man last week is back in jail after being hospitalized, authorities say.

Terry Bryant, 39, was released from an area hospital Tuesday after attempting to slit his own throat when facing arrest Friday and jail at the Mitchell County Jail, investigator Bubba Lamb said.

Bryant is accused of breaking into a Baconton mobile home and killing his ex-girlfriend, Linda Paschal, and beating her 13-year-old daughter Jessica. Bryant is also charged with beating another man, Daniel Purvis.

Mitchell County Sheriff’s officials would release few details about the investigation, forwarding all media calls to the GBI’s Thomasville Office. GBI agents with that office forwarded questions to the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office.

Mitchell County Sheriff W.E. Bozeman has yet to return repeated calls from The Albany Herald made to him beginning Friday seeking information.

When asked specifically what Bryant had been charged with, jailers at the Mitchell County Jail refused to release the information, instead, forwarding a reporter to an investigator who was gone for the day.
