ALBANY — An Albany teen was shot to death Wednesday night, and police say they are questioning a person of interest in the case.

Edward William Bell Jr., 17, died after being transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest, Albany Police spokesperson Phyllis Banks said.

Police responded to a report of a shooting at 1309 East Society Ave., Apartment B around 6:55 p.m. and found Bell.

Banks said detectives are interviewing a person of interest in the case but have not made any arrests.

Bell’s death ends what had been a relatively peaceful two months for investigators who hadn’t investigated a murder since 3-year-old Shondarius Roney was found dead May 2.

So far, detectives in the city have worked seven homicides in 2008 and closed all but two.
