FITZGERALD — Southwest Georgians looking for a little Southern humor should head to Fitzgerald this weekend for the stage production, “Operation Redneck.”

Performances are set for 7 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Grand Theatre, located at 126 E. Pine St., in Fitzgerald.

Tickets are $5 at the door.

Written by New Mexico playwright D.M. Bocaz-Larson, “Operation Redneck” centers around an extremely small town.

“A girl comes home from college and brings her big city boyfriend,” said Ben Hill Arts Council Executive Director Christi Schirack in a recent telephone interview.

Mayhem ensues when the girl, with the help of her two friends, tries to make her boyfriend fit in with the locals.

“Unfortunately, he doesn’t blend in very well,” Schirack said.

Helping to bring “Operation Redneck” to the Fitzgerald stage are cast members Allison Poole, Ashley Poole, Hannah Huggins, Mike Arena, Mikey Arena and Justin Gilliand.

“Operation Redneck” is the final presentation of the Fitzgerald-Ben Hill Arts Council’s 2007-08.

“Our new season starts in September,” said council representative Jon Durkovic.
