FORT GAINES George T. Bagby State Park and Lodge will host a Labor Day Weekend Celebration, starting Friday.
The three-day event will include a variety of activities Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Admission is a $3 park pass per vehicle.
The celebration kicks off Friday with a sunset nature hike at 8 p.m. Participants will meet in the lobby of the lodge. Wear comfortable shoes.
The fun continues Saturday at 1 p.m. with activities in the Coleman conference room.
Bring the kids to see an Eastern box turtle and learn about their unique features that help them survive in the wild, said Brenda Jones, park interpretative ranger in a recent news release.
The activity will also include a competition for an opportunity to give the turtle a name.
The winner will receive a Bagby T-shirt from our gift shop, Jones said. So, be creative.
Following the presentation, at 1:30 p.m., participants will make a terra cotta turtle in the conference room.
From 7 p.m.-10 p.m. Saturday, an end-of-the-summer luau will include food and music.
Bring your lawn chair and picnicking items to the marina and enjoy the musical entertainment of Dough George and the Vacations Band, Jones said. Teriyaki pork and spicy chicken kabobs, Bagby burgers and corn on the cob will be for sale, as well as great luau souvenirs.
Another guided nature hike rounds out the weekends activities Sunday morning. For this trek, participants will meet in front of the lodge at 10 a.m. Sunday and hike to observe native plants and wildlife.
