ALBANY — A burglary suspect was shot with a Taser outside an Albany lounge after he attempted to flee from police, investigators say.

Norris Jones, 21, was spotted by police running from the Sandtrap Lounge on East Oglethorpe Boulevard by police around 2:44 a.m., Albany Police Department spokesperson Phyllis Banks said.

Officers were responding to the Sandtrap after an alarm had been activated inside the business, Banks said.

“The officer spotted the individual, made several verbal attempts to get him to stop running and then used his Taser,” she said.

Jones, who was shot in the foot with the device, was seen by paramedics for injuries before being taken to the Dougherty County Jail, Banks said.

Banks said investigators were working to determine whether Norris might be responsible for a rash of area burglaries and thefts, but stressed that detectives were in the early phases of the investigation.

Banks said the department’s internal affairs unit will review the incident to make sure APD protocols for use of force were followed, Banks said.

The officer remains on active duty.
