Food bank benefit was a big success

This is to say a great big thank you to all of the people, churches, organizations and groups who made Hands Across Albany a great success. On Sept. 28, a big truck was parked in the Kmart parking lot to receive donations to help stock the shelves at the Food Bank of Southwest Georgia. Organized by the Missions Committee at Covenant Presbyterian Church, over 2,500 pounds of food and over $1,000 were donated.

We would send individual letters of thanks but a majority of the donations were made without identification of the donors. One couple drove up and asked if we would take a cash donation. They handed me a $100 bill. When I asked to whom I should give the credit they responded, “Give the credit to God” and with that they drove away.

Brett Kirkland, president of the Food Bank, praised the folks who responded with open hearts. We saw the real spirit of the people of Albany as we truly joined hands without consideration of differences in religious affiliation, race or social status. If you or your organization would like to join us, we plan to have another Hands Across Albany to restock the shelves after the Christmas holiday. Watch for further details.
