The Rams had an opportunity to tie the game in the second OT, but failed to convert. After three failed plays the Rams were faced with a fourth-and-24 situation and Dermonti Dempsey intercepted a Worth pass to end the contest.
"I thought we were dead and gone when we trailed 14-7 with three minutes remaining in the game," Crisp County coach Tommy Walburn said. "As Larry Munson would say, Things werent going our way. Our kids continued to play hard and in the game of football, it comes down to players making plays and we made the big plays at the end of the game. Worth made the big plays to get the 14-7 lead."
Worth needed three plays to score in the first overtime as Jackson scored on a 7-yard run. Jared Edwards added the PAT to give the Rams a 21-14 lead.
Crisp quickly knotted the score. Faced with a fourth-and-one on the Worth six-yard line, Joshua Waters rushed for two yards to give Cougars a first-and-goal on the 4. Two plays later, quarterback Chris Yowe circled end for three yards and the touchdown. Justin Richardson then booted the PAT to tie the score at 21.
Trailing 14-7 with three minutes remaining in the game, Crisp went 70 yards in four plays to tie the game at 14. Yowe, who had not completed a pass before that juncture, connected with Bo Carter for 14 yards and again for 38 yards to give Crisp a first down on the Worth 18-yard line.
Williams gained seven yards and Yowe rolled around right end for the TD with 2:03 remaining in the game.
"We didnt lose because we had injuries," said Worth coach Harris Rainbow, who had several players who were doubtful. "We lost because Crisp beat us. It was one of those games where we came up short at the end and their kids found a way to win."
Buster Jackson led Worths ground game 71 yards in 19 carries and Waters paced Crisp with 70 yards in 15 attempts.
The triumph was the fourth straight for Crisp (6-1 overall, 4-0 in Region 1-AAA), while Worth fell to 3-3.
