Just before 2 a.m. Saturday, police responded in emergency mode to a house on the 1600 block of Sunny Lane, upon arrival, police met with the homeowner, Roderick Almond, who told police he was hosting a card gambling party with about twenty people when someone tried to barge into the house and opened fire, according to police reports.
Almond told police that he saw the person walk up on a surveillance monitor he has focused on the front door and that moments later that person began firing into his house, prompting him to grab the gun he had on his hip and fire back, the report shows.
Willie Daniels, who was acting as security for the party, told police he opened the door to let one of the partygoers out, when he felt a shove at the door and saw a man with a red or orange hoodie trying to come in.
Daniels said that he struggled with the man, who then managed to reach inside and started firing, the report says.
At least seven shell casings from spent rounds were found inside the home and police noted there appeared to be at least three bullet holes in the front door.
No one was injured and only Benjamin Shealy, a person at the party, was arrested. He was jailed on an outstanding and unrelated child support warrant, the report says.
