ALBANY — A new online game is offering a unique way for people to get engaged in the election and give back to the community.

The Peritus Pundit, headed up by Peritus Public Relations in Kentucky, gives individuals the opportunity to compete with a national audience of political enthusiasts in picking the winner of the presidential election.

“Politics is the cornerstone of our business; we live and breathe it at our firm,” said Peritus Public Relations Vice President of Account Services Gary Gerdemann. “The partners of our firm have been engrained in politics for more than 25 years, and they wanted to bring some fun to the political arena while giving back to the community.”

The game has been active since Sept. 29. As of Monday, 222 people had taken advantage of the opportunity.

“We wanted to inject a little bit of fun into this year’s election,” said Tim Mulloy, CEO of Peritus Public Relations. “Electoral maps are everywhere — on TV, online — so we thought we’d give people a better reason to fill one out — like a nice contribution to their favorite charity.”

Winners will be declared 15 days after the election. Upon the closing date, all eligible entries will be compared against the final election results on the winner of the popular vote of the election and the winner of the popular vote in each state. The entry containing the most answers closest to the final results will win the first prize.

The entries containing the second- and third-most accurate answers will win prizes as well. There will also be tie-breaker questions available in the event of a tie in eligible entries.

The first prize is $1,000 to go to any 501(c)(3) charity of the winner’s choice plus a crystal bowl. The second-place prize is $500 to a selected charity, and the third-place prize is $250 to a selected charity. The funds will be donated by Peritus Public Relations.

Participation in the game requires logging on to the game’s Web site to register, and then filling out an electoral map. Once an individual becomes an official player, there are opportunities to voice and engage others on the site’s message board.
