FITZGERALD — Well, it looks like the Purple Hurricane Machine is primed and oiled for another state playoff run.

Thanks to 502 yards of total rushing on the night Friday evening, Fitzgerald romped against Charlton County, 39-7, in the first round of the GHSA Class AA playoffs and now will play Henry County next week.

Leading the way with the first three touchdowns of the game to put the Purple Hurricanes ahead, 21-0, at the half was Nick Williams with three scores (55 yards, 2 and 4). In the second half, Brady Taylor got into the end zone from one yard out, followed by TD scores of 1 and two yards by Jemia Thomas and Jordan Shaw, respectively.

Charlton County scored late in the fourth.
