What you have to realize is that far too many Black folk refuse to hold other Black folk accountable for their actions. This is especially true when it comes to Black folk who are in positions of authority. Black folk usually absolve their Black leaders of any responsibility to uphold the duties of the positions they hold. This is why for years Black folk have remained quiet about the conditions of the DCSS. I mean, who could they blame? The school board was majority Black with a Black superintendent. Now, however, there are problems???
We'll see. I hope you are right. But...
Be careful...there is a long way to go until October.
In the grand scheme of things, this "candy man" you refer to is also very low on the pecking order when compared to the real king pins (i.e. Columbian and Mexican Drug Lords).
It is hard being to engage in critical thinking when being a "dumbed down" follower is the norm.
In psychological terminology, what you refer to is called the confirmation bias. It works like this…Let’s say I am a person who believes that young Black males are thugs. I will ignore any evidence that is contrary to my belief. For example, I will ignore the 20 Black male honor graduates from high school and focus solely on the 5 high school drop-outs who engage in criminal activity.
The mass media in this country is complicit in perpetuating this type of thinking by only focusing on the negative aspects of society. As I was told once by a reporter, “Good news doesn’t sell papers or get ratings on TV.” So it goes…
"We gotta find a way to keep them in school..."
Why do we have to find a way? You cannot externally motivate a person to want to achieve. This type of motivation has to come from within.
If my memory serves me right, the US government paid restitution to those Japanese-Americans who were sent to concentration camps. I am still waiting on my 40 acres and a mule.
BREAKING NEWS...studies show that people who have more birthdays live longer than those that don't!
To quote Mark Twain, there are lies, da-n lies, and then statistics (especially government statistics).
Look at the case of Ms. Harvey in Dawson and her 4 year old daughter and you will get the gist of what I am talking about. With Ms. Phillips (most) people are willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. However, concerning (the late) Ms. Harvey, she is condemned by the masses for being an unmarried woman living in public housing.
Not so funny now is it?
