Why don't we extend (the late) Ms. Harvey and her 4-year old daughter the same courtesey as Mrs. Phillips and wait until ALL the facts are known before deciding who was at fault.

Phillip Phillips' mother gets arrested for DUI and excused are abound (i.e. she might be diabetic, it was a medical emergency, people should wait before they pass judgement, etc.). In this case, two people were killed and another critically injured and what is the discussion about? Welfare checks and lawsuits. No one comes to the aid of LaTosha Harvey and her 4 year old daughter. NO... She is condemned for living in public housing and not being married.

If the goal is to minimize gun violence, why then have there been no substantive talk about how we treat the mentally ill in this country. Why have there been no substantive talk about the increasing number of children on psychotropic drugs in this country? Why have there been no substantive talks about what information is reported on background checks for firearms purchases and who has to report this information? Why have there been no substantive talks about the dismal number of people who have been prosecuted under the current federal gun laws?

I am all for making the world my children and I live in a safer place. However, violence in America is a multifaceted problem. To oversimplify the violence problem to "just guns" is short sighted and foolish.

Please define terrorism, assault and mass murder. How many people must be killed for it to be a mass murder? Two, five, ten, 100? Any weapon can achieve this fate. Granted, it sound warm and emotional to say ban these assault weapons because they are used for terrorism and mass murder, but in reality, a snub –nose 38 can achieve the same goal.

Also, true assault weapons (the ones the military use) have been banned from the public since 1964.
