I hope that Albany grows for all. However, Albany has an invisible cancer that eats her insides up everyday. The doctor who can operate to remove it, give chemo and radiation, and oversee her healing will win God's Nobel.
Much success in this endeavor that should not be tax-based supported. It should be a private funded venture.
I understand why there is so much excitement about this opportunity. Most economic development efforts focus on trying to bring whites back to Albany. Look at the focus of efforts recently -- kayaking, expensive loft apartments, ...
Sadly though, economic development policy almost completely leaves out how to create job opportunities for the low educated population that is stuck here and is not a candidate for moving on.
So until all of the social service agencies including Uncle Sam stop funding handing out fish and instead create fishing jobs, I am sad to report that all the Paula Deen Museums and other white culture economic development activities won't bring the Old Albany back B.J. and B.J. supporters for Mayor.
It takes a strong economic infrastructure of people to make any area attractive enough for all cultures. I hope for that Albany!
It amazes me how the tenure of Sally Whatley that undoubtedly allowed much of what appears to be not so good behavior to occur. She never gets any blame. It seems like short memories or no memories abound.
Still, I hope that the deeply rooted causes of the educational system's lack of performance will be addressed: Since 1954, this country in so many words said, it will not fairly educate black children. When integration occurred, the educational system shut down. And that has borne out around the country, not just here in DCSS land.
I hope that the State comes down and hold a mandatory meeting for the parents and the community. Too much blame is put on the teachers and administrators. However if the children come unprepared to school beginning in pre-k, they are behind the whole way. Not only that, too many children lack discipline and respect for teachers, peers, and the classroom overall.
There was a breakdown in society a long time ago that this country is still running from. Yet, society keeps reaping too many negative consequences.
Yes, even more parents will leave Dougherty to go to Lee. When too many (blacks) get to Lee County-- watch what happens. Lee whites will gradually begin moving back to Dougherty. It is a sad shell game.
Because of economics and not race, groups of people only want to associate with those same people. It happens that whites in this country are the dominate group. We can look at other societies and find the same setup when you have all whites or all one culture; they use some other social factor to discriminate against one another.
Humanity is doomed without the saving grace of a higher being.
I hope these studies don't sit on the shelf like all the others one done in Albany and Dougherty. Ultimately, the problem is that there is not enough tax base left.
It is time to face facts---Albany-Dougherty has been a largely poor place for a long time masked by the minority-majority wealth. Now that the flight of whites over the last two decades has escalated along with blacks with wealth too, it is clear that efforts to increase the viability of low income persons are imperative.
For anyone's information, I enjoy being a white male who happens to have Native American and African American ancestry. While I get to benefit from so much of the tragedy that happened to both of these groups, here in Albany racism against blacks is so strong. I rarely talk about it in public because my friends are so like many of the bloggers. I have accepted the fact that my dominant ancestry of Europeans have exploited so many people around the world, not just in the U.S. Trouble is ahead for the whole globe because of the sins of forefathers.
That is why I always try to hope for Albany, which seems to have such a high degree of unwarranted hatred against blacks. It's almost like the rapist hating to see the child he produced during the rape of his own daughter.
This man is brave to speak up. In western culture, so much about the connection between God and humans had to be buried in order for the behaviors of certain groups of people to be accepted as truth. When God finishes His story whether Mr. Gilham and others like him believe it or not, they will know that there is a God. Not only that, but that God will reckon with all those who distorted nature and history for their perverse needs and exalted themselves against God.
A great example is Albany, GA. This city is so cursed by the past of slavery, lynching, raping, segregation, racism, and God knows what else. The majority of the citizens in Albany are living corpses because their souls were stolen along time ago from the "great fathers" of this forsaken city.
I still hope though that there is hope for redemption.
I hope that all the ignorant bloggers writing in this post know how stupid it sounds. When white racists have ruined the Great American Experiment with slavery and all the other crap that came from it, Black organizations are a tiny saving grace to the atrocity against humanity.

I don't understand what is this matter about?
The American way has always been to take from others and let the future pay for the sins of the past. So what is new?
What should happen is for America to pay all of her debts and start out with a clean slate. I hope for that one day when the appointed Time comes.
