I guess it shows how old I am. When I graduated from LCHS we wouldn't have had to leave the campus to visit first through twelfth. All my friends from AHS and Westover used to make fun of us hicks, now they want their children and grandchildren to go there.
Watching a good bird dog work on a cool November morning. The aroma of a Gargano's Special all the way home after pickup. The smell of freshly turned earth in the Spring. Watching a child land that first "brim" that brings an ear to ear grin. Seeing the wide variety of wildlife in the area - if you just slow down to enjoy it. The croak of frogs and the sound of crickets on a warm summer evening. Sitting in a boat at Abram's Shoals just enjoying the world.
Carlton, I too was raised in rural south Georgia and had many of the same experiences. It wasn't until college that I had much experience with black people (we were still segregated in high school). It took me a while to develop that same idea of being the same except the color of skin. The only problem is that now I CAN'T judge some people on the basis of their character, or their ideas, because if I judge them negatively I am accused of racism. I DO look foward to the day when we are all judged equally by our words and actions.
And WHO defines NEED?
How DARE he have a gun in his home. That young man is probably scarred for life after having that EVIL weapon pointed at him. Our government officials should be made aware of this immediately or else others will be encouraged to follow his lead. Sarcasm off.
I was thinking the same thing - except to UGAg. But that might raise the average IQ too high to be in the S(pecial) E(ducation) C.
Over the past 40+ years I've put down MANY dogs and cats that people have "dropped off" in Lee County. I would probably be prosecuted for animal abuse these days, but I believe that a bullet to the head is much more humane than letting the "pet" starve to death.
I guess we (GT) will have to settle for providing the the best education in the state AGAIN. Oh, as an aside, BOTH GT and FSU have won a National Championship since UGA.
You and I often disagree but on this one we do agree. I would like to point you to another poignant final album, albeit of another genre. Check out the final album of Johnny Cash, specifically the song "I hurt myself today".
Congratulations Graduates. Wow things have changed. When I graduated from LCHS there wasn't 350 students in all 12 grades. Now go out there and make your mark on the world.
