I also went there when it was a genuine majestic theatre. You could walk downtown at night window shopping, fried chicken at the Pig & Whistle, hamburgers at the Artic Bear, drive in movies on North Slappey and at five points , Garganos Restaurant at five points, swimming at Radium Springs. Memories are great but in this day and time these things just can not be brought back. Sad but true.

Downtown Albany is a total lost cause !!! Can anyone tell me how many millions of dollars have been squandered trying to restore it? I have lived here for over 55 years and have witnessed the demise of downtown over that time. Albany in general has gone down hill at a faster and faster rate. I predict that in 10 years Albany from Slappey will be a huge crime ridden slum area Third avenue and South will also be in this category. Albany is not a safe place to visit or do business. I am moving to Worth County, GOOD BYE ALBANY.

They seem unconcerned since a bunch of the money is coming from state and federal funds. Where did those funds come from, TAXPAYERS !!!!!

You are correct $110,000.00 per unit, those pesky decimal points mess me up. That makes it even more unbelievable. I could tear down my house and build a new one for that amount. As Charley Brown would say GOOD GRIEF.

That amounts to almost $11,000.00 per unit !!! What the heck are they planning on doing? If every unit rented for $500.00 per month that makes it almost 2 years to break even on this investment. I do not know what they rent for so I am just guessing on that. Are all units occupied full time? Seems to me there are a lot of questions going unanswered. Typical Albany, let's just spend a bunch of money uselessly, the taxpayers can handle it !

I travel that piece of road several times a day for several years and have NEVER seen anyone crossing the road. If anything put up a light that only turns red when activated by a button this would not have any significant affect on traffic and would allow crossing safely. A lot cheaper than a bridge, am I wrong with this suggestion.

PS bubbasmithredneck; go back to sleep.

We need more stupid looking arches, welcome signs and rebuild a defunct downtown. We could charge for people to go to the new Broad Avenue bridge site and watch the clams or whatever they are mate. What a city !!!

Who picks these squawks? Some of them are totally stupid. One old man drinking a beer on a street corner? A kid waiting for a school bus? Separately they have no relevance, together they still have no relevance. If there are none with enough substance simply put up a squawk stating that.

I have lived in Atlanta and been approached by many of these vagrants. I found that if you politely say no most will leave you alone, the insistent ones always responded to "Get away from me or I will kill you." The Albany Police Department is NOT color blind, many officers simply look out for their own. Look at the ethnicity of the police department and you will know what to expect from them. The detective is sworn to "Serve and Protect" WHY DID HE NOT INTERVEN.

People just do not realize what a God send Hospice is until they have a terminally ill loved one and experience their services.
