Hatred harbored inside? Feelings being masked? You manifest extensive ignorance. Slavery was a dying institution prior to the war. White Southerners who fly the Confederate flag and Honor Confederate ancestors are not the enemy of responsible black Americans who are working to better themselves. Come to the Memorial Service and look and learn. The truth is not what you appear to believe.
Slavery was a dying institution in the South prior to the war. Most educated Southerners were in favor of gradual emancipation. The Confederate constitution banned the international slave trade. The Spanish, Portuguese, English and other European Nations were responsible for slavery in America along with 5 Northern states-Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and New York. They had state owned and privately owned fleets of slave ships. Most slaves in the South were treated fairly and some so well they considered themselves superior to poor whites. Foreign visitors and Northern military officers in the 1820 era described how happy slaves were singing and dancing. Afro-Americans have been indoctrinated by Northern liberal historians to believe that slaves were constantly abused. The one common denominator of all who berate, disparage, and condemn the Old South and the Confederacy is ignorance.
jrite1959 -All who berate, disparage, and express such negative feelings as you have done toward the Confederate States of America have one thing in common-IGNORANCE-. You have been indoctrinated by Northern historians who have written an extremely biased perspective of history. In order to justify Yankee destruction of the South and atrocities including murder, torture, arson, plunder, pillage, and rape they find it necessary to portray the South as an evil slave empire. They have brainwashed you to believe slaves were constantly abused. European visitors of that period said race relations in the North were much worse than the South. Many slaves were so well treated that they considered themselves above poor whites. Blacks were slave owners also. The 1830 U.S. census shows over 3000 free black slave owners owning over 12,000 other black slaves. Southern slaves were better treated than most working class poor whites in the North.
