You are correct in that as near as 20 years ago when a drivers license was earned the 16 year old was made to change a tire. Unfortunately cars today are designed by people who live in a metropolitan area that ride a bicycle. They can't comprehend being stranded 20 miles from a city and no cell service. I still remember red grease rags in my daddys truck just for when a tire needed to be changed.
In this day and age we demand more modern, safer, newer, etc. These demands are made in homes, at school, and within private business as well as government. there is some truth to certain people who could be given exactly what they ask for and still would not be happy. Please remember not everyone has a desire for what a certain group wants and in light of our current economy where choices have to be made about priorities and needs not wants there is plenty of room at the buffet table for people to help solve the problem, not just make negatives comments about the issue. If the problem bothers you be part of the solution.
These gentlemen should live by the same standard my grandmother did; just because you think it looks wonderful doesn't mean that the rest of us do. Besides news will travel quickly after someone wrecks their bicycle and injuries a protruding part of their body that would generally not be exposed. Road Rash :(
