The Williams kid was great for Pelham tonight she was the talk from everyone's mouth in the stands and the young McCoy kid who's a sophmore was awesome. With the Thornton player from Randolph-Clay who is certainly the best young college prospect in Southwest Georgia, the young kids from Monroe,Doughtry and the juniors such as Buie,Diamond,Price,Harrell and Mitchell the Albany area is a place to see girls basketball.
You have a valid point about football vs other sports. We see it all the time in the state. The issue of the fired coach based on members of the coommunity and former players was the talent was there but the elite attitude for some players and not others was enhanced by the former coach. The chanvce to return was offered and met with profanity lace response and negativity. There have been many of players whom had great ability but was unable to be team players.Unforntanely it starts at home.I,ve been to the games there and you should hear the egotistical remarks and empowerment from those in the stands. This gives the kid a rite of passage to behave as they please.I,m sure Oliver is good kid but when you cross the line of profanity laced responses and your productivity does,nt match your actions thats a red flag.Especially when you,re not doing the primary things needed to win. This is not a knock on the kid as a person but a realistic view.Look at the Turner,Americus and Albany game tape. Sadly some coaches let parents and certain players have free reign of the teams and keep their fot on others.THE MOST SUCCESSFUL TEAMS DOE.S NOT LET ELITIST ATTITUDES PREVAIL ON THE TEAM,IT BECOMES CANCEROUS
what a night of scoring, ,kinda wish our AA schools would play some stronger out of region competition. We saw that in state playoffs last year and it,s been evident this season. Class A schools sometimes have to play less talented schools but aleast some like Randolph clay has ventured out and played out side schools. So does Doughtery and Thomasville. Pelham never play tough schedules just run scores up so do others.. .
It,s a sad case when a young person get's to the point where her mouth is foul and parents allow the child to disrespect adults. In this case a child had no respect for coaches and adults around her. My respect is for the coach who held his composure as the child point her finger in his face and use obscenities loudly. leave the floor come back to the bench and continue too be rude. Its not like she was dominating the game maybe 5 for 25 shooting. I wonder is she a good student? The sad part is it took someone with rationale from the stands to tell her she was wrong. Sitiing there you hear a fan or family member boost about offers she's got.The question is will she be able to substain at anyone's university? This has festered from a another coach allowing her to be self-centered and do as she please at practice and during games,Unfortantly it happens in high schools and the child will be in for a rude awaking when and if they get to college!!
Hats off to the Mitchell Boys and Randolph-Clay girls. One of the parents at aTerrell game mention how the program those girls play for AAU have many kids that excel in the Southwest Ga area.Mitchell of Crisp Academy,Williams of Pelham,Buie of Calhoun,O'Conner of Lee County,Diamond of Miller, several on Randolph and more. It seems they,ve got several players on the Darton team also..She mentioned how they;ve help players there like Tanae Davis Desity Mitchell,Tiana Burley Monshay Thomas.and more.It keeps the girls playing year round...
Great win for Westover coach as he has always worked hard to produce winners. The Doughtery caoch is compassionate for her players and really get them to max their potential. Skelton is another player who deserves attention as a playmaker in the area. Kudos to those coaches Randolph-Clay,Thomasville and Monroe coaching staff for playing higher level talent to prepare these kids for state runs.
Hats off to Coach Lea Henry and the Darton team, she 's made Albany and Southwest Georgia area proud. Lets get out and support our winner!!!!!!!!
It only a observation of impact players in the area.Diamond has weaker team but her numbers this year and last year speaks volumes.I like the Pelham team however consider the compition and how they play against tougher compition is a deciding factor. The Freeman kid is very athletic however letting her build stats when the team is 30 to 30 pts ahead is not impactful but stat building. Blackmon and Washington at Randolph Clay is consistent this year and last with similar avgs with some tough compition. Thanks for all the Albany Herald do for the area. Of course Buie is regining Region MVP she's a player .Great job of coaching Thomasville coach doing also to turn that program around. KEEP UP THE WORK
Hats off to Mallory Diamond of Miller Co. she truly deserves to be a super 6er she.s carrying the team and scoring at 30 plus a game.for most of the season and did the same last year.Randolph-Clay Acree is by far the class of girls coaching in South Georgia.Surely someone off that team is worthy of recognition. What about Harrell of Westwood also? The Herald needs to do more research and give these girls more due respect..Buie scoring and leadership of Calhoun is most deserving also.
Great job Monroe way to show the ability to win in adversity. Pelham coach seems intrested in making the sophmore Freeman a superstar than coaching her team. Maybe if she would have utilize the team more than giving the ball to her every trip they would have won. Coach Cheeks made the adjustment and she did,nt
