thepottershand - Thanks for the information. I will pass this along to my friend and family.
thepottershand - Thank you so much for this information. I will pass this information along and I wish you future success.
jhendricks - Thank you for your comment. I can accept your honesty. I wish I could be more specific but at the same time I am trying to protect myself, close family and friends from the wrath of Sherwood if I was to be identified. We are already in a tough position at this time.
First, I would like to thank the Albany Herald for covering this story. They are the only news source in town that has at this point pick up this story. I also appreciate the follow-up article that further proves SBC has something to hide. I am disappointed that several comments that I have written has not appeared to have been accepted. I have a wealth of knowledge of the truth that has not been posted on this website. Until I saw the latest Sherwood article I assumed that these comments were not being accepted to cover the truth. I know of at least one SCA alumni and church member that works for the Albany Herald. I would hope that there would be some reconsideration to my comments or that you dig deeper into the story. The parents, staff, and this community have the right to know the truth.
I just absolutely love this part of the article: When asked about the revenues generated from the film, the general financial state of the church and the seemingly conflicting notion of the revenues coming from the film and the lack of funding for the day care center, McBride said he couldn't comment.
Way to hide, McBride. The parents, staff, and now the Albany Herald has not been able to get an honest answer out of anyone at SBC about the profits of Courageous and what mission(s) will be supported. This tells me the Church is guilty since they seem to be ducking the most important question.I think the staff and parents deserve more of an answer than that. I am sure it's easy for him to sit in his nicely decorated office, drive his nice vehicle, and wear his fancy clothes while he hides behind Sherwood Pictures and SBC. Most of the staff members shop at the Goodwill and Dollar Tree just to make ends meet. Don't think the staff did not hear several key Pastor's joking about people that shop at those stores. The Churches creditability with the Day Care staff is zero. The Church was so ashamed of them that during the Refresh Conference the students and staff were not allowed to cross the Atrium area to get to the gym even if it was raining outside.
By the way...the staff would like to see more than spoken words on how the church is going to help them recover. My family and friends have not seen any assistance as of yet. Maybe McBride can shed some light on this for us where it's written and legally binding?
I will give Sherwood an A+ for effort in the PR stunt but an F- in execution.
Camilla2005, you bring up a great point about the Church working with parents but at some point you have to draw the line in the sand. Especially, when loosing the daycare is at stake. I know that right now there are two parents that owe the church over $800. One of them owes over $1000. I believe in this case you most do whats good for everyone and not whats good for just a few.
While I don't agree with the way it was said I think that this person makes a good point. Courageous has already made $29 Million and growing. I understand that everyone in the movie business has to get their cut and Sherwood has to recover the 2 Million that it spent making the movie however, I believe they would make plenty of money to make the improvements that are needed and keep the daycare open. I believe that the net profit that Sherwood received for either Facing the Giants or Fireproof was around $5 Million. With the movies that Sherwood has made they have paid off the church debit and built a huge sports park in the middle of nowhere. It also seems funny to me how the Mother's Morning Out program is being expanded in this recession where they are struggling for money. You being a parent, I would not take the excuse from Mrs. Johnson that none of the Courageous money comes to Sherwood. It's a pure lie. Here is the facts...The Daycare is a ministry of Sherwood Baptist Church and SBC can use it's profits from Courageous any way that they so choose and any ministry they so choose.
You have also made an excellent point about the staff losing their jobs. Over 30 people will loose their job and since Sherwood is a church organization they are not required to pay unemployment benefits. Therefore, if theses staff members don't find a job then they will be without any income as the cannot file for unemployment.
ConcernedMom - I think that you have mis-read what this person is saying. I believe that this person is trying to say that you parents struggle in this recession to make ends meet for your children. Especially, when Sherwood just raised prices and everyone just had to pay and activity/supply fee. You don't give up on your children and neither should Sherwood. Trust me, this was just as much as a surprise to me as it was you and I have been associated with Sherwood for over 15 years.
