The really sad part is that it gets enough ratings to keep running, as with all the other junk that's on tv.
What is happening is the ones who REALLY need some assistance can't get it because they are honest and may only need it temporarily!! I work just across from a laundromat and am amazed/shocked at the ones who pull up in new vehicles with the best audio sound system rattling the walls, has the best rims, tires, tinted windows, the latest fashions for the entire family and talking on their cell phones while unloading baskets of clothes to be washed. I can't figure out how they get away with it and continue to. As for no one checking applications, I have to say I've been in that position, had to swallow my pride to even walk in that door and then be told I was only available to receive $38/month! I walked out without anything.
I don't begrudge anyone who falls on hard times and tries (yes TRIES) to apply for assistance to help until they can get back on their feet. What I do begrudge is not qualifying for any assistance because of a few dollars too much then being denied for SSI when you've paid into SS since the age of 12!! I've been told that children as young as 3 can get SSI because they are "crazy"!! That really blew my mind! The system is so unfair! I agree with Waltspecht. Public records show since 2008 that Ms. Baker was making over $90K and should have NEVER filed for free/reduced lunches.
Oh how I miss those days when I had to make my children come in just to eat, then they couldn't eat fast enough so they could get back out to ride their bike, swim, climb trees or just run around! We shouldn't need a professor/nutritionist to tell us we should keep our kids active. I'm almost 52 and I am out swimming, running, turning cartwheels with my grandchildren. It's time to stop buying children gadgets to keep them inside and sugary sweets and drinks while doing nothing but moving their fingers!!
I was thinking the same thing! So many out there don't know how to use the words "loose or lose", "then or than" "and or an", "their or there"...the list goes on and on, shame. I have seen this even in my grandchild who is in the 5th grade! I correct her each time and hopefully she will learn from that. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in classes today.
Wandering off the path we lose our way.
agreed, it's not over yet.
How is it that you qualify for reduced/free lunches and still be able to afford the bling, nice ride, clothes, and accessories? Seeing her on the news walking up the steps with her attorney all the while smiling and using her cell phone, she's not worried. Who is paying for her attorney? I don't think with the salary a teacher makes they would qualify for any reduced or free lunch, guess I'm wrong.
Yet Tebow is ridiculed for being honest and compassionate, shame that's the way of the world today.
Back in the late 80s when my son was born prematurely and was in Macon for many weeks. Both my husband and I were working but had to make visits every day to see our son, and we were struggling to keep our bills paid. We swallowed our pride and visited the DFACS office to see if we were able to receive any help or food stamps. We were ask to fill out a form that required our life history and afterwards were told we could receive $38 a month. I've seen young women, looking perfectly able to work, and little children in tow with two buggies of groceries, yes two, and my husband and I were only able to receive $38 for couple of months. We decided we would do the best we could without the assistance and we made it. This program has long needed some regulation. What is wrong with these young women? How are they able to get away with this? Neither the Dems or Repubs care as long as they are getting their fat paycheck. As I've said before they do not live in the real world, they're too busy flying off to their other home and can't be bothered with serving the people.
